Details

The Inter-American Society of Philosophy and the Philosophical Society of Uruguay invite researchers, teachers, and other actors linked to philosophical activity to the 19th Inter-American Congress of Philosophy and the 5th Congress of the Philosophical Society of Uruguay, to be held in Montevideo, Uruguay, between Monday, December 2 and Thursday, December 5, 2024.

The event aims to present and discuss research products in philosophy and related disciplines, both regionally and internationally. In addition to the contributions in presentation format, experienced speakers in various thematic areas will participate, and thematic workshops and book presentations will be held.

In keeping with the spirit of previous editions, the congress aims to receive contributions from all areas and currents of philosophy that maintain conceptual and expressive clarity and intellectual rigor.

The modality of attendance at the congress will be exclusively in person, with live transmission available only for the plenary conferences.

The first confirmed key speakers are Ernest Sosa (Rutgers), who will deliver the congress opening conference, and Mario de Caro (Tufts).

Participation Modalities

You can be part of the XIX Inter-American Congress of Philosophy in the following categories:

PLENARIST

By invitation only. The plenary speakers will receive an invitation to participate as such from the Organizing Committee and the Scientific Committee.

ATTENDEES

Attendees must register in the registration form and make the corresponding registration payment.

BOOK PRESENTATION

Book presenters must register in the registration form and make the corresponding registration payment. If they also participate as speakers, they must also register using the form and make payment as speakers.

WORK GROUPS

It is possible to propose working groups whose proposals are different from those of the thematic tables already listed. Exhibitions of interpretation of works from the history of philosophy and on particular philosophers, among other possible topics, are welcome. To do this, the organizer of the working group must register the group using the registration form, entering information about the members along with the titles and summaries of the presentations of its members. The speakers who are members of these working groups must, however, also register using the form, where they must indicate which working group they are part of. If the group organizer also participates as a speaker in 5 that group, he or she must also fill out a separate registration form as a speaker, and must enter a different email address than the one entered in the working group form.

The working groups must have at least five participating speakers for that table (it is invited that the speakers, as far as possible, be from at least two different countries). To calculate the time given to each working group, 30 minutes will be counted per speaker participating in the group (20 minutes for presentation and 10 for questions); However, each organizer may use the total time granted to the working group in the manner that seems most appropriate.

SPEAKERS

They may make presentations individually or collectively. If it is collective, each of the speakers must fill out their registration form, and opt for the collective presentation option, indicating the names of their collaborators.

Speakers must fill out the registration form and attach, in addition to their personal information, the title of their presentation and a summary of at least 200 and a maximum of 500 words. They may present a maximum of two presentations.

The presentations must be adjusted to a maximum of 20 minutes, plus 10 minutes of time for questions, which will follow each presentation.

The languages accepted for presentations are Spanish, Portuguese, English or French.

The proposals, both from individual presentations and from working groups, will be evaluated by designated evaluators.

Registration and presentation of abstracts

Registration and receipt of abstracts will be carried out through the web registration form on the congress page, where you will also find more detailed information about the congress: www.congresosif2024.sfu.org.uy
